BCS Predictions: 2010 Florida Gators
The Florida Gators will enter the 2010 with a new post-Tim Tebow era and with plenty of holes to fill on both sides of the line. Florida returns only 6 starters on offense and just 5 on defense after losing just 2 games in BCS odds for the past 2 seasons. The Gators will open in college football picks as a 8-1 choice at online sportsbooks to win the national championship. Urban Meyer will face what looks to be his most challenging season in his 6 on the job at Gainesville. But Meyer is also known as an ace recruiter that has hauled in some of the highest rated classes in the country over the past few years so the cupboard is definitely loaded with new talent that is eager to take to the field.
Florida will be favored in college football odds to win the SEC East but may face stiff challenges from Georgia and South Carolina if they slip. Junior John Brantley takes over for Tebow at quarterback and is much more of a pure passer and traditional signal caller. He did complete 75% of his passes in limited action last year with a nice 7-0 TD/INT ratio. Florida has been profitable against the spread 3 consecutive seasons and is well over 60% against the board as a home chalk since 2000. They have also covered their last 5 games when coming off a rare loss.
The Gators will get a shot at revenge against the team that decimated them in the SEC title game last year with a trip to Alabama on October 2nd. They will then have to host talented LSU the following week. Another tough game in BCS odds will be the annual match-up with Georgia in Jacksonville on October 30. Revamped Florida State may be a nasty host on November 27. There is no doubt that Florida is still among the most talented teams in the SEC but they will also be facing a transition on offense and replacing a lot of veterans with inexperienced personnel so a 10-1 price may not be enough.
